Welcome to the British Book Centre’s WordPress blog!
The British Book Centre, part of the M. Lermontov Interdistrict Public Library System, is an English library and cultural centre in the historic part of St Petersburg.
The library is open to locals and expats alike.
All the VK.com users, check out our VK group with over 8,800 subscribers.
The British Book Centre holds a collection of materials in English, mostly from UK publishers. At the core of the collection are books received from the British Council. Our collection includes: classic literature and modern fiction, books on culture, lifestyle and popular science, a diverse selection of course books and resources for EFL teachers and students, children’s books, films and audiobooks on CDs and DVDs as well as a number of popular UK magazines.
While not being exactly huge (presently, just over 6,000 titles), our collection is unique for St Petersburg. Most materials (apart from a few ‘coffee-table’ books) can be borrowed for 30 days. A loan can be renewed for an extra 30 days.
Each year around 500 new items are added to the collection. Check our blog for new arrivals updates or browse our recently added fiction and non-fic titles on Goodreads or our full on-line catalogue (interface in Russian).
The library also welcomes book donations. We accept with gratitude books and other materials that are in good condition and are likely to appeal to our patrons.
